We
are living in London, but my parents live in Galway and I lived there
for 10 years, attending NIG Galway for 4 of them. We hope this small amount helps a bit with the Cattery, best of luck with everything. Sharon & Andrew Philbey **********************

Sheba was one of four puppies left at the gate of my sister¹s boarding kennels. She was the runt of the litter and we decided to keep her. She grew up with my children and they couldn¹t go anywhere without her following. My
parents had a bach at Tinopai and the kids loved to go swimming whenever
they could. As they splashed around with their armbands and kickboards,
Sheba would be paddling around and looking after her brood. But once
she¹d had enough, everyone had to get out of the water. First she¹d take one kickboard to shore, using her mouth. She¹d swim out for the next, much to the kids¹ disgust as by then they knew what was in store. She would swim out, grab hold of an armband and, as it deflated, proceed to tow the disgruntled child ashore. With the child safely on the beach, she would head out to retrieve the other child, who by this time was trying desperately to get ashore before she too had only one armband. Another time, the kids were playing at the neighbours¹ house. I called them to come home for their bath and dinner. Just as they were getting into the bath we heard a terrible noise coming from the driveway. We looked out to see Sheba with the handle of a plastic ride-on motorbike in her mouth, pulling the bike home. Once in the gate she dropped it and turned smartly back up the road to get the other bike. The kids are adults now. They tell me that Sheba should have been named Mum¹. Story

Smarter than Jack story of the week
Not one but three goodnight kisses I had a rescued Border collie named Jess who managed to get three kisses every night. She was supposed to spend the nights in her bed in the kitchen. Each evening, as I tidied up the room and prepared to turn out the light, I'd find her already curled up in her bed. The routine was that I'd kneel down and give her a pat and kiss the top of her head, saying, 'Night night, sleep tight.' Then I'd go through to the sitting room and plump up the cushions on the sofa and prepare to switch out those lights. Without fail, I'd find a Border collie curled up in the armchair by the door, pretending to be asleep. I would say, 'Good heavens, I seem to have a second collie', and once again I would kneel down, pat and kiss the top of her head and say, 'Good night, sleep tight.' Then upstairs I'd go, first into the bathroom and then along the corridor into my bedroom where I'd turn on the light. Who would I find curled up on the bedside rug but a third collie! Once the same ritual had been played out, I would undress and get into bed, switching off the light. The only sound in the dark bedroom was my dear collie thumping her tail on the rug, obviously pleased with her play-acting. Once again she had managed to get three goodnight kisses instead of one, and I just knew she was smiling. Pat
